Description

The London Leaders Award Grading Day 2019

You are cordially invited to join us at Kingston University on 29 & 30 April 2019

We are expecting even more entries for the London Leaders Award than last year and would be delighted if you would join us at our grading days.

As the ideas and thoughts of pupils between the ages of 3 to 19 are inspirational, thoughtful, insightful and frequently hilarious we are inviting YOU the engineering community to help us grade this year’s entries. As a small incentive, limited edition badges will be offered to those who help, and certificates provided to recognise your contribution.

Pupils are invited to interview an engineer, look for a problem and draw a solution to it. Entries include letters explaining why their solution should be built and accommodatingly Kingston University will build one!

The programme has always been about engineers inspiring children but anyone who had been involved with the Leaders Award will tell you – children are also inspiring engineers.

That engineers read the entries is hugely inspirational to those taking part, these events will help demonstrate just how much engineers care about the engagement of young people with engineering.

We are offering the 29 & 30 April at Kingston University where engineers can join us to read entries and give them a grade. If you have an hour or more we would sincerely appreciate your time.

Please feel free to share with engineering colleagues - we are looking to inspire you and give you a few stories you can ‘dine out on’ along the way!

For further information visit www.leadersaward.com or call 01282 417333.

PLEASE NOTE: Parking will be limited on site so please plan your travel in advance. Teas and coffees will be provided throughout the day, please provide your own lunch or alternatively there is a café onsite.

Pupils were asked to research engineering and interview a practicing engineer to inspire them in answering the question:

"If you were an Engineer, what would you do?"

Pupils then identified an issue and invented an engineered solution to that problem. Pupils of 3 and over were asked to illustrate their solution, accompanied by a letter to explain their invention and why it should be built by engineers.

The Leaders Awards are STEM programmes designed to encourage children, from as young as 3 up to 19, to engage with engineers who convey the importance and the ubiquity of engineering in everybody’s lives – from the houses they live in to the technology and tools they use, from the multiple transport system they travel in and the very food they eat.

The Leaders Awards are a part of Primary Engineer Programmes: www.primaryengineer.com
